McKenzie Special School District, Huntingdon Special School District and West Carroll Special School District all recorded increases in student enrollment as compared to last year.

Carroll County has a new General Sessions judge. Michael King defeated Larry Logan for the seat. Logan has served 41 years and is the longest-serving General Sessions judge in the state.

McKenzie (August 7) — Reverend Rob Harris told his congregation he would preach from the rooftop if the attendance on Easter Sunday reached 300. It did and he did.

With the August 18 deadline only a week away, more candidates have qualified for the November 8 Local Municipal Election.

McKenzie, Huntingdon and West Carroll will be involved in football jamboree action this Friday night, August 12

McKENZIE — Repaving a portion of South Main Street in McKenzie was completed Monday. The section is from Block City Pizza to U.S. 79.

The McKenzie Special School District Board of Education met Tuesday, August 2 in a regular meeting following the first day back to school. 

HUNTINGDON (August 6) — The stories of Governor Gordon Browning, Governor Alvin Hawkins, and aviator Lt. Jack Jenkins were portrayed by Robert “Gus” Radford, John Everett Williams, and Kent Jones on Saturday, August 6. The portrayals were part of the history of Huntingdon during its bicentennial celebration.

A few of our vendors are on vacation, but we still have plenty of fresh produce. Shoppers were able to take home heirloom tomatoes, canning tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, okra, squash, zucchini, onion, cucumbers, peas, beans and honeydew melons.

Two Carroll County 4-Hers showed out at the regional and state 4-H horse shows this summer. Alyvia Foster and Gracie Hix, both seniors at Hollow Rock Bruceton Central High School earned numerous awards in the senior division of the regional and state 4-H horse shows.

Average gasoline prices in Tennessee have fallen 16.1 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.58/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,821 stations in Tennessee.

Huntingdon has hosted several bicycle road races and triathlons in past years but this year they are hosting the 2022 Tennessee State Individual and Team Time Trial Championship on Saturday, August 20.

HUNTINGDON — This year’s slimmed-down Carroll County Fair features a nightly carnival with Belle City Amusements.

McKENZIE — The McKenzie Rebel and Lady Rebel Golf Team started their season on Monday, August 1 at Carroll Lake Golf Club playing against Gleason and Huntingdon.

HUNTINGDON — The Mustangs hosted Covington for a football scrimmage Friday afternoon, August 5, with both teams getting in good work against each other. 

McKENZIE — The annual McKenzie Middle School Jamboree took place Saturday afternoon and evening, August 6, at Rebel Stadium under sunny hot conditions.

County Budget Committee to Meet The County Budget Committee meets the third Thursday. The meeting is 10 a.m. in the conference room of the County Complex.

Aggravated Assault/Domestic Assault — Officer Trenton Ruddy received a dispatch regarding a 911 call from a David Street residence early Sunday morning, August 7 where a man walked in and found another man in his house. According to Ruddy’s report, he and Sgt. Trey Boucher spoke with Kenneth Schultz, who informed the officers that he walked into the bedroom to speak with his wife, Rhonda Schultz, when he noticed the man. Schultz stated he yelled at the man to leave when he got up and pushed him. Mrs. Schultz pointed a black handgun at Mr. Schultz and told him to leave the room. He left his residence and called 911.

HUNTINGDON (August 3-4) — The following cases were heard in Carroll County General Sessions Court on August 3 and 4.

Drug Violation — Michael James Gukeisen, 35, of 1518 Terry Road, Huntingdon, was charged on a drug, narcotic violation on July 30.

My basketball career began in that large space where our living room ran into the dining room. I “shaped” a coat hanger into a goal and hung it on the facing above the opening between the two rooms. I bounced a tennis ball off the floor, feinted left, deftly moved around Wilt Chamberlain and banked a right-handed hook shot off the “backboard” and through the coat hanger for the winning basket.
